Bottle Banter

Hold on a sec! If Booze Bully claims to be “non-judgmental” about experiencing various spirits, then what’s the deal with bottle reviews? Fair point, so let’s explore.  Our aim is to guide viewers along their journey of spirit exploration. Our reviews are simply that - a guide, not gospel - on the characteristics of a given dram.  The opinions presented here are highly subjective. Furthermore, a review is an isolated perspective at a certain time that can change with future sittings, so just like any other review that you may come across, it is to be taken as intended: a perspective that can guide others like markers on a trail!  To further enhance the reviewing experience, we may also include at times various “guest commentary” which provides extra insight by other contributors from all levels of experience.

The Bully Ratings:

At the end of each review, you will see an overall score, or “Bully Rating” as the culmination of the assessment.  We rate each dram with a score from 1-5 “bullies” including the “half bully” denoting a half point.  Below is a general key to each rating from 1-5, not including those with half-point designations.

In the end…When all is said and done, your own palate is your best reviewer, so we encourage you to read our reviews with a grain of salt and come up with your own clarity about the spirits that move you.

  • Zero Bullies

Just not gettin’ anything out of this one.

  • One Bully

Lacks spectrum, flavor, depth etc. Offensive to palate, not even cocktail-worthy and/or poor value.

  • Two Bullies

Some spectrum and flavor, minimum depth. Not very memorable but drinkable. Appropriate for cocktails and mixed drinks. Value just okay.

  • Three Bullies

Wide spectrum and flavor array, depth of character. Worthy in value and versatile from neat to mixology. Easy to enjoy.

  • Four Bullies

Very wide spectrum and depth of flavors. Contemplative, layered, and, well balanced. Possibly unique/off the beaten path. An “every-dayer” without question.

  • Five Bullies

Perfect score! Unmatched spectrum, flavor, and depth of character. The pour keeps on giving any way you enjoy it. Possible unicorn status.
