Our Beginnings

Once upon a time, there were these two marching band dads that became friends through several arduous seasons of band “pit crew” duty – the often non-glamorous ordeal of building, schlepping, and organizing high school band equipment and show props for full seasons of football games and competitions. The monotonous loading and unloading through early days and late nights would often culminate with a round or two of adult beverages to shake off the travails of the job…

On one particular evening, as the tired two sat down for a tipple after a particularly stormy State Preliminaries competition, Rob settled into a neat pour of a Makers expression while Gerald cracked open a cold can of some fizzy, tutti-fruity, hard seltzer from a loud neon colored aluminum can…

“Ummm, Gerald … What the heck are you drinkin’?” said Rob, somewhat flummoxed and a tad blinded by the brightly hued can. To which Gerald replied, “ROB, STOP BEING SUCH A BOOZE BULLY!” The cackling ensued, and the term became a running joke between the two for years. Through time, the term started to take on a life of its own.

It didn’t take long before Gerald jumped on the same whiskey/bourbon wagon that Rob had been on for over 25 years. As the two friends continued down the wonderful abyss of whiskey education, they soon saw the irony of the Booze Bully phrase: in the world of whiskey (and most everything else that involves the sense of taste), everyone’s palate is unique. We all bring our own individual experience, moods, personalities, and preferences to the tasting table. Therefore, there should never be any judgment AT ALL when assessing one’s preferred taste for what/how a person enjoys their dram. Simply put: a “booze bully” should never exist, hence the catch phrase: “More drinky, less bully!”

The name, “Booze Bully” pays homage to the silly phrase that started us down this path, but we are anything but “Bullies” when it comes to whiskey/bourbon. Basically, our aim is to call out and eliminate the convention of bullying in the booze world. We are here as a welcoming resource for all aspects of the enjoyment of whiskey. Our aim is to provide a non-judgmental forum for whiskey lovers and to provide as much fun content as we can muster. We would love your input, provided that it is constructive.

Say no to booze bullying!
